Wow, wonderful couple of tunes here from Dean Ferell, who comes to us not from Amarillo but from College Station, TX. Dean tells us:
5th Generation Texan, born and raised in Sulphur Springs, Texas, but I’ve lived most of my adult life around College Station, Texas. I’ve been all over the world on a research ship where I work to support my musical habit. I’ve seen icebergs off the coast of Greenland, danced in the street at Carnivale in Rio, and lost a wife somewhere in the Pacific along the equator. It’s always good to come home.
This song, “Leavin’ You in Amarillo”(and a second one i’ll be submitting), is my first to tape for the Couch by Couch West Festival. It’s a song about life on the road, even more lonesome when you’re not sure you can trust the ones closest to you. It’s not paranoia if I’m right.
This song “Working in the Sun” is a song I wrote years ago about growing up on a Dairy farm in Northeast Texas, moving away for a better life and realizing maybe there isn’t a better one.
I hope you like it. Dean
