Matthew Sigur – Hannah / My Lover is a Ghost

Red Sticker, Matthew Sigur, (they call Baton Rouge Red Stick, but not sure if inhabitants are Red Stickers) is the front man to the The Widowers. Last year they released the most excellent record, Mint Grizz and “My Lover is a Ghost” is off said record. Matthew explains “My Lover is a Ghost” as such:

“I wrote this song when I was about 18 years old. It’s about a young couple, say teenage lovers, and the guy dies on the spot in the woods, and the girl is just devastated. It’s that entire line of events in song. For some reason, at the time, I kept playing that scene from the movie “My Girl” in my head and wanting to write about it. Spoiler, it’s the scene where Culkin goes into the woods and gets stung by a billion bees. In hindsight, that movie is kind of awful, but the drama in witnessing that was something I wanted to write and get into.”
