Monte Dutton of Clinton, South Carolina, is back for his third CXCW! He combines two songs into one video, and gives us a glimpse into his songwriting process, plus describes his other writing gigs and other hobbies. Thanks Monte!
The video is shot at home, in my house and out on my farm, because the songs, ‘Don’t Ask, Don’t Tell’ and ‘Scuppernongs and Muscadines,’ hit pretty close to home.
I’m sort of an all-around writer. I spent 20 years traveling all over the country writing about NASCAR races. Now I still write a good bit about NASCAR, both as a Bleacher Report columnist and at montedutton.com.
I’ve published two novels, one (The Audacity of Dope) about a songwriter who becomes an unlikely hero, and the other (The Intangibles) set in 1968 amid the civil rights movement, the Ku Klux Klan, and integration of Southern schools. A couple more are on the way.
I also took up sketching, mainly as a way to illustrate my own short stories that are on display at wellpilgrim.wordpress.com.
While I was writing a book about music (True to the Roots: Americana Music Revealed), I taught myself to play guitar a little, and that’s how I became a songwriter of modest renown.
I hope you enjoy these two new songs.
