Coming in from around Louisville/Southern Indiana area is a guy that I have been meaning to check out for sometime, but dude to my laziness, haven’t. That man, as you have probably guessed by now, is Nick Dittmeier. Nick had this to say about the song, which I found interesting, “I was inspired to write this song after listening to an Otis Gibbs Thanks for Giving a Damn podcast talking about the ‘Wabash Cannonball.’ It basically talked about the origins of a lot of American folk songs and how common chord progressions, melodies were the norm and people would use those to write their own stories or build on those stories. The song is a play on John Prine’s ‘Grandpa was a Carpenter,’ and I always thought that song hit close to home about my family.” When all this is said and done, Nick is going to be near the top of my list of artists I do finally listen to.
Also, we LOVE the Otis Gibbs podcast. You should definitely check it out.
