Rachel Brooke – Farther Along

Michigan’s Rachel Brooke (and her cat Dan) sing us out with this beautiful rendition of the traditional gospel song Farther Along . She sings this in dedication to her Aunt Shirlee. She tells us:

I couldn’t really decide what song to do, so I sang Father Along (it’s a very old gospel song)
While I was on this last tour I found out that my Aunt Shirlee had stage 4 cancer–We were pretty close, and there were MANY times where we would sing in her kitchen, or around a campfire for HOURS..she was a lover of music and especially old country and bluegrass. Well a week or so after they found out she had cancer, she died. (While i was still on the road) I got to talk to her before she died and she asked me to sing this song at her funeral. She ended up not having a funeral, but a “showing” but I couldn’t be there because I was still on the road and couldn’t even make it back in time if I wanted to. So, this song is for her, and for YOU!

Thanks Rachel, we were blown away when we heard this, and what better way to close down CXCW2013. See everyone next year.

  1. very nice… a friend sang this song at my mothers graveside service.. she continued her journey after a brave struggle with cancer.. i am sure your aunt is very proud of you.. thanks for this song.. i dedicate it to my mom Rita, also.

  2. PS

BTW… i have a guild guitar also!.. the last song i sang for my mom was a dylan song called “girl from the red river shore”.. it’s not very well known.. but it would fit your voice nicely
