The surprise guest on this first video of Tommy the Street Singer’s set nearly sent the CXCW HQ into a group hysterical fit (except Matt who apparently hasn’t actually listened to music for the past several years so didn’t seem to know who the surprise guest was). About this lovely song, Tony Fitz shares, “As with Rónán O’Snodaigh’s impromptu performance last year, Marina, the owner of the house we record the videos in, hooked us up this year with her friend Tommy Doran, and his kids, Tom and Felix. As we were setting up, braving the baltic cold and gale-force winds, Tommy was joined by another surprise guest – Glen Hansard. After a quick run through so Glen could learn the chords, Tommy gave us an original song called ‘Freedom’.”
Next, Glen helped young Tom and Felix with a couple of covers from everyone’s favorite, Johnny Cash.
“Folsom Prison Blues”
“Ring of Fire”
Tony rightly notes that it wouldn’t be CXCW without a little Willie Nelson, so Tommy provides us an accordion cover of “The Convict and the Rose”.
